FELA as the first system supplier with its own connection to data hub CUS
Easy connection to CUS also for third-party suppliers of passenger information systems
In addition to well-known transport companies and larger transport associations, FELA is currently unique as a manufacturer with its own connection to CUS.
As the only system supplier at present, the Swiss company FELA was able to go live with its own connection to the CUS data hub at the beginning of February 2022. This means that three FELA customers are now already connected to CUS, two of them with a third-party passenger information system. The connection of another customer is already in preparation.
No easy task for small transport companies - mandatory connection to CUS
The so-called integration platform of the Customer System (CUS) of the SBB serves as an exchange platform for real-time data of all transport companies in Switzerland. Through it, for the passenger invisible changes, between tariff zones and also providers, are possible.
The CUS is managed by SBB, but is now mandatory for all public transport companies – making it the de facto national data hub (DDS). All timetable and real-time data of the affiliated companies are delivered to it in VDV format and can thus be exchanged throughout Switzerland.
All larger transport associations or transport companies in Switzerland have their own data hub that forwards to CUS and from which the data can be subscribed nationwide.
Typically, the data of a computer-aided operations control system (AVLC) or even Intermodal Transport Control Systems (ITCS) of a manufacturer are prepared in a certain way, so that the data hubs are oriented to these systems in the preparation and forwarding of their data.
Simple for all transport companies that run under the umbrella of a larger transport association All the more difficult, for all small and independent operators who would have to take care of their mandatory connection to CUS themselves.
Simple and independent connection to CUS
FELA has recognized this need and implemented its own connection to CUS. As the only system supplier so far, the Swiss company has its own data hub to which third-party systems can also be connected.
This benefits especially smaller transport companies that are independent of transport associations, which can gain easy access to CUS with the support of FELA’s expertise.
In contrast to the proprietary connections of larger operators, any passenger information system can be integrated with the FELA connection.
For example, of three operators currently connected via FELA, only one is equipped with a FELA proprietary passenger information system. Others are still in preparation.
Passenger information systems in buses, trains and streetcars help to keep an eye on arrival times and connections. FELA offers all the components that modern passenger information systems require, from the monitor, to the audio and video system, to the on-board computer.
