The Mariazeller railway runs from St. Pölten through the picturesque Pielach valley into the pilgrimage town of Mariazell – over 19 viaducts and though 21 tunnels: The journey with the longest narrow-gauge railway in Austria (84 km) is very impressive.
In December 2010, the NÖVOG (Lower Austria transport organisation GmbH) ordered from Stadler nine modern low-deck railcars plus five panorama coaches for the Mariazellerbahn (MzB), also known as the “Heaven’s Stair”. The multiple units are specially tailored to meet the needs of the NÖVOG and their passengers.
The special feature of the railway is that it is used by commuters on the first stretch but also bring tourists to the world-famous tourist attraction and pilgrimage town of Mariazell.
The Mariazellerbahn was fitted out with a complete passenger information system by us between 2012 and 2015 as a contract from Stadler:
